Septic System Information and Tips

Unless you have come to Lake Hubert from a rural background, you probably have very little knowledge of the operation of a septic system.

A septic system is an on-site wastewater treatment system. It consists of two parts - the sewage tank and the effluent treatment system.

The sewage tank receives all the water and sewage from your household. Initially, it is held there until the tank's capacity is reached; then the excess liquid flows from the tank into the effluent treatment system - typically a drainfield. The treatment of the effluent is completed in the drainfield by microscopic organisms that break it down into nutrient and water.

It is extremely important that the system receive proper care and maintenance to maximize its life. Replacement is a very expensive procedure that is also very destructive to your property. A septic system can last up to 40 years with proper care.
