At Lake Hubert, the first Ruby Throated
Hummingbird of the year usually appears around May 5th.
Often due to a cold spring there are few flowers for the hummers so please put your feeders out.
The easy, and almost free, recipe for feeder nectar is:
In a saucepan, mix
4 parts water
1 part granulated white sugar
Boil for one minute to kill any germs and spores.
RED FOOD COLOR PLEASE
(food color could harm the tiny birds and they WILL find the feeder without colored nectar)
Cool the mixture and fill
Store any excess in a sealed jar in the refrigerator.
Have fun watching the hummingbirds.
